New Kid On The Street

camaro-right-rear-largeDriving past the Jon Hall Chevrolet dealership in Daytona Beach today I spotted a 2010 Camaro RS out in front semi-surrounded by a crowd!  This was just too much to pass up so a prompt 180 was safely negotiated back to the dealership entrance.

From the Oshawa Ontario Plant

GM’s Canadian Oshawa, Ontario plant manufacturers the new Camaro.  This car came off of the transporter an hour ago and was promptly put out front since it was their first at the dealership.  To say that the car was a magnet for Car Guys and Gals would be very accurate.

A Crowd Gathers

camaro-right-front-largeTraffic continued to stop and people continued to come by the entire time that I was there.  Young singles, young couples, middle aged men, women, couples, and senior citizens stopped to look.  It was clear that the 2010 Camaro appealed to a broad demographic range.

A couple of salesmen were present including Bill Coffey, better known as BC.  The guys had definitely been studying their new product information.

Automotive Quiz Show questions and answers went back and forth.  Questions such as horsepower ratings came from the high performance set – that transitioned to the SS trim level, while the young couple discussed the LS trim level and fuel economy.  I thought about bringing up the special Brembo Brake Package but decided to maintain a low profile.

Taking A Break

Technical Information

The car continued to draw a crowd.  This particular RS is powered by the 304 HP which, according the the EPA, gets 18 MPG city and 29 MPG highway.  SS Trim with the 6.2L v8 gets EPA numbers of 16 and 25 MPH, respectively.  This is great economy if you can keep your foot out of it!

camaro-interior-largeTransmissions are either 6 speed automatic or 6 speed manual.  6 speed transmissions provide an optimal balance of performance and economy and it is really good that the GM Engineers are listening to the enthusiasts about what type of powertrain components they want in the production vehicle.

Interior of the RS was very nicely appointed in the black sport cloth seats.  It seemed as if everyone who came by wanted to get some seat time in the Camaro.

This certainly was a great afternoon!
