Daytona Spring Car Show
March 27-28-29 were the dates for the Spring Daytona Beach Car Show and Swap Meet. Although not as large as the fall event organizers expected over 1,600 cars including street rods, classics, sports cars, luxury cars, muscle cars, street machines, and trucks. Over 1,000 vehicles were expected for sale in the car corral. Selected photos can be found in the Gallery tab.
Because it is impossible to be everywhere at the same time your intrepid Editor planned to visit the show on Sunday and that morning a weather front came through and the rains poured down. Arriving at Daytona Speedway a little before noon things were very quiet.
There were certainly some interesting cars but not a lot of excitement. However, along with an intrepid colleague, we went to the track. Using our special VIP Pass we went through the tunnel and on to the inside of the track.
Compared to a normal bright sunny day there was not much going on. That did not stop us as we walked through the display areas and Car Corral. Shown above is a red 1975 Citroen 2CV6 which was absolutely one of the cleanest cars at the event.
Outside of the auction area was this gold Chevelle. What caught my attention was the Rally Wheels because last summer on eBay I sold an original set of the wheel centers for over $600. The wheel centers had been in my toolbox since 1970 when I worked at Rosenthal Chevrolet in Arlington, VA.
In the fall is the big car show at Dayton Beach. It used to be called the Turkey Rod Run but now it’s simplified to Turkey Run. The weather is typically good for the spring event and your Tribune editor is looking forward to this event. For a car guy, this is definitely worth attending.
